When you think of trees, the image that comes to mind is probably supple green leaves swaying in the wind, birds chirping away on their branch, and the strong brown bark of a healthy tree. You probably don’t envision rotting branches, a bug infestation, and crusty leaves falling to the ground.

But if you have a dead tree in your lawn, this is what you will see. A dead tree can be extremely harmful to your entire lawn, as it usually attracts pests that infest the bark and cause more damage. If the tree is next to your house, your home may also be at risk, because dead branches tend to fall off unannounced, and could severely damage your roof.

So it’s best to be proactive, and get rid of the tree. Dead tree removal will be the best way to keep your family, your house, and your lawn safe.

Here is how to do the tree removal process on your own.

  1. You will first want to make sure that everything is cleared around the tree. Be sure that no one is standing around, and that there are no objects in the way — a falling tree can be extremely hazardous.
  2. Once you have determined which way the tree naturally leans, you will be able to figure out where to make your cut. Then, at a 90-degree angle, make a V undercut that is about one fourth deep. Once you have finished this, make your backcut a couple of inches higher than the V undercut, but on the opposite side of the tree.
  3. As tree begins to fall, get as far away from it as possible after turning off your saw. After it hits the ground, proper tree branch removal will be critical to finishing the job well. In most cases, you will want to start from the bottom of the tree and move up through the trunk.

You can decide what to do with the stump once you’ve cut up the remaining log. It can either become an aesthetic part of your yard, or you can remove it.

If you are not confident that you can do this yourself, do not attempt it. Instead, call a dead tree removal company to help. Cutting down a tree is not something that should be taken lightly, and unless you are completely sure, get experts to do it for you. For more information, read this website.
